We are delighted to welcome Lucy Shuker and Anna Smith to the Bright Ideas for Tennis team. Lucy will join as a Trustee and Anna as an ambassador.
In 2001, Lucy had a motorbike accident which left her paralysed from the chest down at the age of 21. She started playing Wheelchair Tennis and has since been named as one of Britain’s most influential people with a disability. She is passionate about helping to develop wheelchair tennis for the next generation and uses her experiences to inspire others to strive for success no matter what life throws at them. Lucy has represented Great Britain at three successive Paralympic Games; Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016, becoming a Double Paralympic Bronze Medallist with over 100 career titles to her name. She has achieved career best rankings of World No.5 in Singles and World No.3 in doubles, and is also a former World Doubles Champion, four time Wimbledon Double’s Finalist, Multiple World Team Cup Medallist and National Champion. Lucy will offer valuable experience to help us achieve our mission to get more people playing tennis and provide inclusive opportunities.
Anna focussed her tennis career on the doubles court, winning over 25 doubles titles on the ITF women’s tour and reaching the top 50 on the WTA doubles ranking list. Anna represented GB in the Fed Cup and made the third round of Wimbledon in both the Women’s and Mixed events. She is now sharing her knowledge with upcoming players as she begins her coaching journey. Anna has been a great support at our fundraising events and will help us to promote the benefits that tennis has on one’s mental and physical well-being.
We are excited for many of you to meet the GB tennis superstars as they will join us at events this year. Welcome aboard!
