On a fabulous autumn morning, Danny Sapsford and Andrew Richardson ran through a series of coaching clinics for our members. They began with some basic technique mixed in with some fun and games for the minis. Then a fast moving basket drills session for our teenagers, finally two tactical sessions for our team / social players. Throughout the day, our Davis cup stars were ably assisted on court by Tim Seymour, resident pro at Normandy, and his partner, Paula.
We used all of our 4 courts and every session was full to capacity. We also had a large number of parents/partners watching from the sidelines who found it equally enjoyable to encourage/criticise from the comfort of their chairs! We had a whole army of volunteers helping us off court, from BBQ's to fastest serve competitions, raffles to 'guess the number of balls in the bag', there was something for the whole family to enjoy.
Following lunch, Danny and Andrew teamed up with Tim Seymour and Steph Cornish for a highly entertaining, and highly competitive doubles. Trick shots and light hearted banter flowed, and a great afternoon was had by all, especially Andrew and Steph who won the match by 6 games to 4.
As a result of this unique opportunity to raise funds Normandy Tennis Club aims to introduce the following initiatives:
Normandy Tennis Club is friendly club situated in peaceful and attractive location just off of the A323 in the centre of Normandy village, close to Guildford.
We have almost 150 members and 3 all weather courts, all of which are floodlit.
Members are able to book the tennis courts at any time for their own usage, and equally are invited to join club activities: including coaching, club nights, coffee mornings, tournaments, league matches.Visit Club Website
At a time when many smaller Clubs are possibly struggling to attract and retain membership numbers, a day such as the one delivered by Bright Ideas for Tennis, together with the coaching legacy that will follow is be a great way to enhance the profile of the club(s) both internally and externally and hopefully ensure the long term health of our clubs. It is also a great way of enthusing existing members to get out on court and play more frequently.
One of our big aims off the back of this day is to build and develop more opportunities for families to get out on court and play, to get those parents who may only pick up a racket once or twice a year on court with their children and enthuse them. We will also further develop our links with the local schools and provide additional coaching opportunities for our existing and prospective new members. I would like to extend my thanks to Danny and his team for giving us this great opportunity and I wish him well for all his future endeavours with Bright Ideas for Tennis Tim Seymour, Head Coach Tennis Extreme
